The whole world saw it. The true smile of a lonely girl shattered the pride of the oppressive state. When the innocent girl was handcuffed and chained behind her back, she did not cry, shout, or grumble, but smiled as she looked at the brutal soldiers, and in the distance the camera's eye saw the girl's smile.
This scene was recorded. Then that smile spread all over the world through Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, television screens and newspapers. The chambers of oppression were shaken. their guns, tanks and warships seemed insignificant in front of the smile of an unarmed girl.
The name of the girl who announced the defeat of the oppressors through a smile is Maryam. In the last decade of Ramadan, when the occupying forces of the oppressive state of Israel began to disrupt the worship of the helpless and forced Muslims of Palestine, these Muslims began to protest.
A similar protest was taking place in the Sheikh Jarrah area of East Jerusalem. The area is attributed to Sheikh Jarah, a physician to Sultan Salahuddin Ayubi. Sheikh Hussam al-Din al-Jarrah came to Palestine with Salah al-Din al-Awbi after the conquest of Jerusalem. In love with Al-Aqsa Mosque, he became here and the area in which his tomb was built is today called Sheikh Jarah.
When Israel occupied the area west of Jerusalem in 1948, many Muslims left their homes and moved to the Sheikh Jarrah area of East Jerusalem, which was administered by Jordan. The area was also occupied by Israel in 1967.
In recent years, the state of Israel has begun forcibly evicting Muslims from their homes and markets, and Jews are being resettled in Sheikh Jarrah. Sheikh Jarrah's Muslims were already worried about the forced evictions when, near the 27th of Ramadan, the Israeli army began disrupting Taraweeh prayers at Al-Aqsa Mosque. People also took to the streets in Sheikh Jarah against the Israeli army's aggression.
Maryam Afifi |
As the number of protesters against the desecration of Al-Aqsa Mosque increased in Sheikh Jarrah, Israeli security forces mounted a cavalry detachment on the peaceful protesters. In the stampede, a Palestinian child was captured by Israeli soldiers and shot at gunpoint. Maryam was not spared when she saw this child being beaten. As she tried to save the Palestinian child from violence, an Israeli soldier grabbed Maryam by the hijab and pulled her to the ground.
Three or four soldiers took her in their arms and started beating her on the road and dragged her towards their armoured vehicles. As she was being dragged down the street, a journalist filmed the violence and asked her name, and she said, "I am Maryam." Shortly afterwards, locals confirmed that she was Maryama Afifi.
Maryama was arrested and taken to a place where several Palestinian protesters had already been handcuffed behind their backs. Maryam adjusted her hijab as soon as she got the chance but at the second moment she was also handcuffed. She started smiling as her hands were tied behind his back.
A distant journalist recorded the scene on his camera. The journalist noticed that Maryam's smile surprised and disturbed the Israeli soldiers. He risked his life and got close to the armored vehicle and started filming Maryam. Maryam was asking the Israeli soldier in very clear English if my only crime was that I was saving a child from your violence.
The soldier remained silent. Maryam addressed him again and said, "Just think, when you were a child, did you want to be what you are today?" The soldier remained silent. Maryam said confidently, "You are a tyrant, you should be ashamed." The soldier's eyes were downcast and Maryam, chained, had conquered him.
This video of Maryam was sent to me by a Palestinian journalist with the message, “Brother! You saw the destruction of Gaza with your own eyes in 2009, Israel destroyed Gaza again in 2014 and now in 2021 Gaza is again under Israeli bombardment. brother! Our Eid will be spent picking up and burying bodies, but look at the smile of one of our sisters Maryam Afifi, this smile is announcing that the last victory will be ours, pray for us. I read my Palestinian friend's message over and over again and pondered Maryam's smile over and over again. I don't see any myth behind that smile.
In the last days of Ramadan 2021, Israel desecrated the Al-Aqsa Mosque as part of a well-thought-out plan to discourage the Palestinians, but the Almighty encouraged countless oppressed Palestinians, including Maryam Afifi, to use Israeli guns and tanks.
Stand in front of Hamas has also carried out missile strikes in response to Israeli aggression, and some women and children have been harmed in these attacks. Let anyone attack. Women and children should not be oppressed. However, Israel has received the message that no matter how much it establishes diplomatic relations with Muslim countries and uses military force against the Palestinians, the Palestinian resistance cannot end. Palestinians represent the oppressed around the world.
Palestine is Kashmir and Kashmir is Palestine. Palestine will also win, Kashmir will also win, Maryam's smile is a slap in the face to all those who have been advising us on friendship with Israel. Maryam's smile is a declaration of victory. This announcement may seem like a myth to you today, but it will become a reality. Maryam has won.
