Banning Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan & Ongoing Protest

After the arrest of TLP leader Allama Saad Hussain Rizvi, the atmosphere in the country is getting tense. In the last few years, the TLP has gained immense popularity at the grassroots level. On Monday, Lahore Police Chief Ghulam Muhammad told to news agencies that Hussain Rizvi had been arrested for maintaining law and order situation in Pakistan.

A few days ago, Saad Hussain Rizvi had given the government a deadline of April 20. It should be noted that the publication of blasphemous sketches of the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) in France at the official level in 2020 had provoked a strong reaction in the Muslim world. Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan had protested in Islamabad aggressively that was later postponed after an agreement with the government on November 16. Champs Write critically monitoring the current situation.

The agreement stipulates that the government will decide through parliament within three months on the deportation of the French ambassador, will not appoint an ambassador to France, and free all TLP workers immediately. The last two demands were immediately accepted by the government, but the first was being under consideration and government was reluctant to fulfil this.

TLP warned in January that it would resume protests if the government did not comply with all their demands. Negotiations have been going on for the past one month in which the government reiterated its commitment to present the terms of the agreement in Parliament by April 20, 2021. Then the government assured that decisions would be made with the approval of parliament.

TLP staged a massive protest against the government's refusal to comply with all the demands, after which the government arrested Hussain Rizvi along with other TLP workers. It is not possible for the government not to know how sensitive this issue is but inadvertently the government is neglecting this issue which is causing great loss. The Pakistani government should decide according to the aspirations of the people, ignoring external pressure. If the government does not take timely action, the country will turn to extremism, which will hurt everyone.

Banning Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan is not the solution. This ban has further strengthened the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan. The growing popularity of Tehreek-e-Lubbaik Pakistan has also troubled the government. Now it remains to be seen how the government will deal with these issues.
